“Many times I see something that pulls me in for no apparent reason, suddenly a mundane moment becomes meaningful – my photography is an observation of places, characters, objects, moods and thoughts that surround me.”
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Giselle started her career as a still photographer for Brazilian feature films, and subsequently became a commercial and journalistic photographer. Feeling the need to add movement to her work, Giselle went to New York to pursue cinematography studies at NYU, where she was awarded an Eastman Kodak Scholarship and a Master in Fine Arts degree with Excellence in Cinematography. Since then she has shot documentaries, shorts and feature films, having had the pleasure of working with a diverse group of directors, which include Daryl Hannah, Sergio Rezende, Eve Ensler, Roger Paradiso and Michael Moore among others. Giselle is the recipient of numerous awards, among them Nestor Almendros Cinematography Award and the Panorama Award at the Berlin Film Festival.
Presently Giselle lives and works in New York City. She is a member of the International Cinematographers Guild Local 600.
